REPORT FOR THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR
  • Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education
  • Goals: to help seniors improve attendance, attitude, grades, and participation.
  • 19 students.
  • 19 mentors, 7 of whom are Rotarians. Mentors held weekly meetings with their students.
  • $1580 in donations received from 19 Rotarians to financially support the program.
  • Monthly group meetings were held September through May. Topics: the ACT, Career Exploration, College Applications, Scholarships, financial aid, and how to make a good first impression. In November the group toured Terra and were treated to a five-course etiquette luncheon at the Neeley Center. In December the Superintendent and Co-Chair held individual meetings with every student to get an update on their progress toward their post secondary goals and to provide each student with a holiday gift. In January there was a panel discussion about college life provided by former Ross HS graduates.
  • Students attended Rotary luncheon meetings throughout the year.
  • Nine students showed improvement in attendance.
  • Nine students had perfect behavior records for the entire year, with no disciplinary infractions.
  • Twelve students showed improvement in their grade point average.
  • College scholarships totaling $2350 were awarded to four students.
  • All of our students plan to continue their education or training, either at college or through the military.
